First of all finding the right image for using in your post or page is very important. It can increase the chances of user engagement on a website. You have different options available for finding images. You can search on Google Images or try buying from iStockPhoto or Flickr. If you are using images from Google Image search then make sure that you are not violating any one’s copyright. Putting image with good colors and resolution can leave a positive impression on visitor. They may want to share that page with their friends.

2. Using Keyword in Image Name

Second tip for Image SEO is to use the keyword which are targeting the Image Name. For example, don’t upload an image with name like ab002131.png, because it will not define what the image is about. Instead rename the image by putting your keyword, like image-seo.png. As you may know Google spider don’t have eyes, it can just get idea from Image Name, description and all text around image, like Caption. So it will be good exercise to put your Keyword in the Image Name.

3. Using ALT and TITLE Tags

As I said, search engines can not know by themselves what the image is about. So they rely on ALT and Title Tags and other text around images like caption text. For better Image SEO you should always enter a descriptive alt and title tag to each image. This will improve the ranking of these images in search results. If your Images are related and well ranked then you will be getting much traffic from Google Image Search. Alt text is what you will see instead of image, if image on any page not loads. So if you are linking an image to another page, then remember to put right Alt text, related to the other linked page.

4. Putting Keyword in Anchor Text

If you are using hyperlinks to link to an image then you should use the correct and descriptive Anchor text. Best for this is to also use your Keyword in the Anchor Text. It will help search engines to know about the linked image. Anchor text can play a vital role in the ranking of your linked images. That’s always use descriptive text with keyword for linking to your images. And don’t just put “image” or “photo” as Anchor text.

5. Image Related to Content

You should make sure that your image is matching with the content on your page. Image should be actually displaying the same thing which is described in the: Image Name, Alt & Title tags etc. For better Image SEO, images should be related to the content of the page. It will help Search Engines to rank your images quickly. And when every thing on your page is speaking the same thing then you will be getting good rank in Google Search Results. Thus getting traffic from both Google Search and Google Image Search.
